Bring It On... Worthing International Birdman 2012 - 18/19 August 2012

Wilde's Word

Hi I'm Wilde about Worthing Birdman !!! I am the new mascot for the competition and if you keep your eyes out for me I am sure you will see me around Town.

My name comes from Oscar Wilde who wrote "The Importance of Being Earnest" while visiting Worthing and one of the characters is named after my new home town.

I was designed by Mike Payne who is an International award-winning cartoonist and illustrator.   More information on Mike can be found at www.mikepaynestudio.com

2011 Diary

Dear Diary

Wilde about meetings

So much to look forward to this year, I have been told there will be quite a lot going on woo hoo! I wonder how much there is for seagulls to do this year?! Oscar has just told me the Ice Rink will be back in December too Yipeee! I'd better get my skates on!

July:

I hope you’re counting down! Only 30 days until the big event! Me and Oscar can’t wait to see you all there, and neither can Sid the Squid, who’ll watch from below. Also my mum plans to fly down here and spend the weekend in Worthing, so she can watch all your amazing flight skills…but obviously they’re not as good as mine!

And another thing… I found out that at the Birdman event a special film will be on show and some super cool Jet Ski performances, what more could you want?!

I'm so looking forward to the funfair too which will be in town soon! I wonder if Sid will go on the waltzer with me?

So on the 13th and 14th August be there or be square!

June:

Hi Mum, It’s me Wilde. I miss you very much and think you should know that it’s now getting very warm here in sunny Worthing and maybe you should come and visit soon. I’m so excited for the birdman event, although I’m not actually going to fly because I want to give the others a chance to reach the “over 100 metre” mark. Wait, I’ve had a great idea! Why don’t you come down and watch the birdman event with me? You’ll love Worthing, everyone is nice and the weather is so sunny at the moment! And also a little birdie told me (or should I say Oscar told me) that the ice rink will be back for Christmas! Isn’t that great? Maybe this year Seagulls will be allowed to join in for the same awesome price as the kids? Well I’d better grab my skates and get practicing!

Hope to see you soon,

 Love Wilde, x

May:

Hello everyone! It’s me again, as wild as ever for the Birdman event coming up. Oscar and Sid have sent off their entries for the Birdman, have you? I hope you think about it, even though its 3 months away; it takes a while to build a really cool contraption. And it’s not everyday you can glide off the pier with all the support from Worthing! Sid has an amazing idea for his wings he’s going to make and is starting on it right now. But hey, guess what’s happening on June 11th… SUNNY WORTHING DAY! Come and join us on the end of Warwick Street by the Guildbourne Centre, I will be there with Kiku the Clown, and some lovely deck chairs and flags to wave for Sunny Worthing! Sid and Oscar won’t be there because they’re visiting family, but I’ll see you bright eyed and bushy tailed!
